Welcome to Ynysfach Primary School
WE ARE A NUT FREE SCHOOL
CURRICULUM STATEMENT
At Ynysfach, we the school community have worked collaboratively to develop a bespoke curriculum for our pupils, that is driven by the four purposes and develops an understanding of the What Matters statements within the six areas of learning and experiences. Our curriculum is unique, constantly evolving and bespoke to our school and community. We constantly receive valuable input and feedback from our pupils, parents, governors, staff and the wider community that feeds into our termly concepts.
We believe, our curriculum, meets the needs of the national framework, offers exciting opportunities for pupils to become successful lifelong learners and have a sense of belonging within their community and understand how their community links with Wales and across the world. It is a progressive curriculum that ensure pupils develop their exploratory skills, deepen their knowledge and understanding and have the ability to engage with growing complexity to solve problems and develop an increasing independence to their learning. It is broad and balanced and ensures pupils develop their literacy, numeracy, integral and digital competence skills but also gives them opportunities to make meaningful links across the six Areas of Learning and Experiences with its cross curricular approach. Each learning opportunity will focus on at least one of the four purposes, so that the pupils begin and continue their journey to be ambitious capable learners, ethically informed citizens, enterprising creative contributors and healthy confident individuals.
Throughout the pupils’ time at Ynysfach, we will carefully monitor how they progress in the six Area of Learning and Experience, literacy, numeracy and digital competence and how they deepen their integral and higher order thinking skills, with the use of self, peer and teacher assessment. These assessments will enable the pupils to progress on a day-to-day basis but will also give us the opportunity to capture learners’ progress over time. Staff will continually update and reflect on individual pupil progress learning journeys through their own observations, but also through pupil and parent contributions. These observations and contributions will feed into setting next step targets for pupils to enable progression to be continually evolving.
At Ynysfach, we are working within our school and cluster to achieve a shared understanding of progression. We will monitor and review our curriculum and its impact on pupils’ progress regularly, but we believe that through implementing of our bespoke curriculum we will give pupils the tools, experiences, confidence and more importantly the belief in themselves to achieve a bright and happy future and become lifelong learners.
